Our Process

Alice’s Kids does not accept requests from the general public. Instead, we have developed a national network of hundreds of teachers, social workers, police staff and others who, upon identifying a child with a specific need, email us our Request Form.

If the request is approved, we either mail a check to the appropriate entity or electronically send a gift card. For example, if the request is to pay for a child’s yearbook, we would issue a check to the school. If the request is for an item that can only be obtained with a gift card, such as soccer cleats or a school uniform, the requestor estimates the value of the item and recommends a store convenient to the family. Then, one of our 11 gift card administrators electronically sends the card to the requestor. The gift card includes language describing the item/s that can be purchased with the card. The requestor then prints out the card and passes it on to the appropriate adult. The average processing time is no more than 24 hours.

Note that the assistance we provide is not delivered directly to the child. We do not collect items and deliver them to the family’s doorstep. Instead, after the gift card is handed to the adult or the adult is informed that a check has been processed, the adult can then proudly announce to their child that they are getting the desired item. This process helps preserve the dignity of the child and gives the parent the opportunity to “shine.” In addition, in the case of a gift card this approach allows the child to actually go to the store and pick out the item (a bike, baseball glove, tennis shoes) that they desire.
