FAQ

We do not accept requests from the general public. Instead, we have established a national network of teachers, counselors, social worker, homeless shelter staff and others who, when they identify a child with a specific need, send us the request.
Request form can be found at this link.
Our average grant per child/family is approximately $125, however, we have made exceptions. When in doubt, submit the request.
We provide direct, targeted assistance to a child in need that is in grades K – 12. Alice’s Kids does not provide assistance to preschool aged children.
There is no limit but we normally do not provide assistance for groups, such as an entire girl’s softball team or a Boy Scout troop. Request for assistance for each child requires a separate request form, unless siblings are involved. In that case, a family request may be made on a single request form.
We pay for items such as soccer cleats, camp fees, music lessons, field trips, prom tickets, yearbooks, clothing, and other items. Our goal is to provide for items that other non-profit organizations will NOT pay for. Daily samples of items we pay for can be found on our Twitter or Facebook pages.
Alice’s Kids normally does not pay for food or transportation. We do not pay for any medical care, legal fees, housing, or gasoline. These are the types of things that many other nonprofit organizations will pay for.
For more information, see “Our Process.” Generally, however, we provide either a gift card or a check. The requestor will list the item(s) needed, and where it can be purchased (e.g., Walmart, Target, Dick’s Sporting Goods). We then send the gift card electronically to the requestor. The requestor then gives the gift card to the parent or guardian so that they can shop with the child to get the needed item. This is all done anonymously so that the child does not know they are receiving charity. Sending a gift card by email allows for a rapid response to the requestor, sometimes within 24 hours!

If the item cannot be purchased at a store (e.g., prom ticket, yearbook, field trip dues), Alice’s Kids will send a check to the requestor made out to the entity that provides the item (e.g., Student Prom Committee, Yearbook Club, High School Science Club).

Our average response time is within 24 hours.
Sometimes, but rarely. We work hard to ensure the child receives assistance that is within our mission. A request that is outside the scope of our mission/guidelines may be modified to provide a more appropriate response. If an item is extremely expensive, sometimes Alice’s Kids will match whatever dollar amount a child can raise on their own for the needed item. In other words, we try very hard to make sure the child is helped in a meaningful way.
A check made out to Alice’s Kids can be sent to P.O. Box 60, Mount Vernon, VA, 22121

Absolutely. Alice’s Kids is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Every donor to Alice’s Kids will receive an acknowledgement showing the donated amount. This can be kept with your tax records for use when making an annual tax filing.
Yes. This sometimes requires extra coordination with the area and individuals involved. But Alice’s Kids is happy to meet this request.
Alice’s Kids is located on most of the popular social media sites, and some you may not be aware of. Check these out:
Alice’s Kids is a relatively small organization. Besides the Board of Directors, there is one full time employee, and three part-time employees. Volunteers work in the following areas:
  • Community Outreach (spread the word about Alice’s Kids by phone and email to organizations around the United States; school, shelters, police departments, social service departments, etc.)
  • Gift Card Administrator (receive approved requests from the Executive Director, then coordinate sending an email to the requestor with the appropriate electronic gift card)
Normally, when a need arises to add or replace volunteers, the Executive Director makes an appeal on all of our social media platforms. So, visit the platforms on a regular basis to look for help we might need. But if you believe you have a special skill that Alice’s Kids could use, you can always email the Executive Director at contact@aliceskids.org.
